KinKi Kids was set up in 1991, consisting of
Domoto Koichi and
Domoto Tsuyoshi . Both joined their present company Johnny's Entertainment
Inc. at about 10. Starting out by acting in bit parts, they soon proved themselves
and started getting many acting roles.
Originally known by the name "W Domoto"(Double Domoto)
or Kansai Boya (Kansai Boys), they became known as KinKi Kids in 1993. They joined the music
industry as background dancers for SMAP,and became wildly popular after the release of
their first single, Garasu no Shonen (Fragile Youth) in 1997. Since
then, they have released 15 singles and five albums.
In 1995, KinKi Kids also became part of J-Friends, collaborative effort
between KinKi Kids, V6 and Tokio. Originally intended as a charity drive after the
Kobe earthquake, J-Friends has worked with many famous musicians, like Michael
Jackson and Elton John, and has produced 5 singles and one mini-album to date.
Actually due to be disbanded in 2001, it's last single will be released at the end of 2002.
Recently, their unprecedented record of 14 1st-placed singles since
debut was recognised by Guinness Book Of Records and will be included
in the 2003 printing. Koichi has also began to branch out towards musicals like "Shock" and
Tsuyoshi has also been doing his own solo concerts, finally releasing his
first solo single and album this year. Clearly, KinKi Kids have proved their
staying power, and for many more years to come, we will be very fortunate to enjoy not just their respective talents,
but also their unforgettable chemistry as a dynamic duo.
